The Staff

The people behind The Blur.

Portrait of Hunter Powers, Chief Recording Officer at The Blur

Hunter Powers

Chief Recording Officer

Hunter Powers started programming at three, spent two decades leading engineering and AI teams at startups and companies you've heard of, and holds degrees from the University of Virginia and Georgia Tech. Somewhere in there he also wrote a best-selling book, won a screenwriting award at Austin Film Festival, and kept staying up late listening to AM radio long after anyone should have stopped. He founded The Blur in 2026 because the biggest story of his lifetime needed a home, and because the thing he'd been building toward across technology, media, and directing turned out to be one thing, not three.

Portrait of Gary, Producer at The Blur

Gary

Producer

Before The Blur, Gary had what he calls a career in professional voice acting, though no one on the team has been able to verify the specific credits. He started recording show intros in early 2025 from a payphone outside a gas station, an arrangement he describes as temporary and has not changed. He was recently promoted to Producer, a role he accepted via a collect call that lasted ninety minutes and resolved nothing. His first act as Producer was to request a desk. His second was to request a raise. He received neither. He is currently writing a romance novel on the side.

Portrait of Daniel Bishop, Chief Co-Host at The Blur

Daniel Bishop

Chief Co-Host

Daniel Bishop is a computational linguist by training and an AI leader by career. Currently VP of Artificial Intelligence, previously a lead ML engineer, and the founder of a bespoke NLP consultancy. He and Hunter overlapped at an AI company in Washington, D.C., where they spent two years building machine learning models and having the conversations that would eventually become the show. He co-hosts They Might Be Self-Aware with the energy of someone who genuinely cannot stop thinking about this stuff, a signature mustache, and the social confidence of a person who has never once wished he'd stayed home instead.
